Keyword density checker
Paste text or enter a page to see which words and two- and three-word phrases it uses most, with counts and density. Stop words are skipped so real keywords stand out, and a focus keyword check tells you whether it's used too little or too much.
How to use the Keyword Density Checker
- 1Paste your text, or switch to Check a page and enter its address.
- 2Optionally type the focus keyword you want the page to rank for.
- 3Switch between 1, 2 and 3 word phrases to see what the text repeats most.
- 4Rewrite repeated phrases with synonyms, or add your focus keyword where it's missing.
Frequently asked questions
What is a good keyword density?
There isn't a magic number, and Google doesn't use one. Most well-ranking pages use their main phrase naturally, often around 0.5–2%. Much higher usually reads like keyword stuffing.
How is keyword density calculated?
Times the phrase appears × words in the phrase ÷ total words × 100. A two-word phrase used 5 times in 500 words has a density of 2%.
What are stop words and why are they skipped?
Very common words like the, and, of and to. They top every list but say nothing about the topic, so phrases that start or end with them are hidden unless you tick Include stop words.
Does the page check read menus and footers?
Yes, it counts all readable text in the page's HTML, including navigation and footers, but not scripts or hidden code. Paste only the article text for a cleaner count.
