Frequently asked questions

What is the character limit for an Instagram caption?

Instagram captions can be up to 2,200 characters with a maximum of 30 hashtags. Only about the first 125 characters show in the feed before the “more” link, so put your hook first.

Why does X count my post differently?

X uses a weighted count: most Latin characters count as 1, while emoji and Chinese, Japanese or Korean characters count as 2, and every link counts as 23 characters no matter how long it is. This counter applies the same weighting for the X row.

Do emojis count as one character?

On most platforms an emoji counts as one visible character, even when it's built from several code points (like flags or skin-tone emoji). This tool counts what you see, using your browser's grapheme segmentation, so emoji don't inflate the total.

How many characters can a YouTube title and description have?

YouTube titles can be up to 100 characters and descriptions up to 5,000. Keep titles under about 60 characters so they aren't cut off in search results.

Is my caption saved or sent anywhere?

No. Counting happens entirely in your browser — nothing is stored or sent to a server.
