Frequently asked questions

How does X count characters in a thread post?

X allows 280 per post, but counts every link as 23 characters and most emoji, plus Chinese, Japanese and Korean characters, as 2. The thread maker uses the same rules, so each post fits.

Where does the thread maker split my text?

Between paragraphs first, then between sentences, then between words. It only cuts inside a word when one word is longer than a whole post, such as a very long link.

Should I number the posts in a thread?

Numbers like 1/6 tell readers how long the thread is and help them follow it when posts are shared on their own. Leave them off for a casual thread on Threads or Bluesky.
