Webcam test: check your camera online

Check your camera before a video call or interview. Allow camera access to see a live preview, switch between cameras, try 720p, 1080p or 4K, and see the resolution and frame rate your camera really delivers. The picture stays on your device and is never uploaded or recorded.

Frequently asked questions

Is the webcam picture sent to Join Postly?

No. The video goes from your camera to this browser tab only. Nothing is uploaded, recorded or stored, and the camera turns off when you tap Stop or close the tab.

Why does the browser ask for camera permission?

Browsers never let a website use your camera without asking. Allowing it for this page only lets this tab show the preview; you can remove the permission any time from the lock icon in the address bar.

Why is my webcam showing a black screen?

Another app may be using the camera, a privacy shutter or a keyboard camera key may be closed, or the system has blocked camera access for your browser. Close Zoom, Teams or other tabs, then check your system privacy settings.

Why is my camera's resolution lower than I chose?

The camera gives the closest mode it supports, and some laptops cap built-in cameras at 720p. Poor light can also lower the frame rate. The readout shows what you're really getting.
