Sale price calculator: what will I pay?
Shopping in a sale? Enter the ticket price and the percentage off to see what you'll pay and how much you save. Add a second code or an extra markdown to see how stacked discounts really add up, and add tax if prices are shown before it.
How to use the Discount Calculator
- 1Enter the original price and the discount, as a percentage or an amount off.
- 2Add more discounts if they stack, such as a sale price plus a coupon.
- 3Optionally add VAT or sales tax to see the price you'll actually pay.
- 4Or switch to Find % off and enter the original and sale prices.
Frequently asked questions
Which discount should be applied first?
For percentage discounts the order doesn't matter: 20% then 10% gives the same price as 10% then 20%. It matters when one discount is a fixed amount, which saves more when it comes off after the percentage.
Does sales tax apply before or after a discount?
Usually after: tax is charged on the price you actually pay. In the UK, prices in shops already include VAT, so the discount comes off the VAT-inclusive price.
How can I tell if a sale is a real bargain?
Compare the sale price with what the item normally sells for elsewhere, not just the "was" price on the tag. Price history sites and other shops help you check.
