Make a favicon from a PNG

Turn a PNG logo into every favicon file your website needs: favicon.ico with 16, 32 and 48 px images, PNG icons, the 180 px Apple touch icon, Android icons and a site.webmanifest. Transparency is kept, and the HTML to paste is included.

How to use the Favicon Generator

  1. 1Upload a square logo (PNG or SVG works best), or switch to Text and type a letter or an emoji.
  2. 2Pick the background, the shape and, for text icons, the colours.
  3. 3Check the previews at 16, 32 and 180 pixels to make sure the icon is readable when small.
  4. 4Download the ZIP with all files, upload them to your site's root folder and paste the HTML into the head of your pages.

Frequently asked questions

What size PNG should I use for a favicon?

A square PNG of at least 512 × 512 pixels. The generator scales it down to every size, and starting big keeps the 180 and 512 px icons sharp.

Does the favicon keep my PNG's transparent background?

Yes, for favicon.ico and the PNG icons. The Apple touch icon gets a solid background, because iOS shows transparent areas as black.

Can I use a PNG directly as a favicon without an ICO?

Modern browsers accept a PNG favicon through a link tag, but some tools and older browsers still request /favicon.ico. Using both, as this generator does, covers everything.
