Frequently asked questions
Which image formats can I convert between?
Any image your browser can open (JPG, PNG, WebP, GIF, BMP, AVIF and, in Safari, HEIC) can be saved as JPG, PNG or WebP. AVIF output is offered when your browser supports encoding it.
Is the conversion done on a server?
No. The image is decoded and saved again by your own browser, so the conversion is private and works without sending your files anywhere.
What happens to transparency when I convert to JPG?
JPG can't store transparency, so transparent areas are filled with white. Convert to PNG or WebP to keep a transparent background.
Can I convert an animated GIF?
Only the first frame is converted, because the canvas API reads a single frame. Animated GIF to video or WebP animation needs a different tool.
