Frequently asked questions
Does converting JPG to PNG improve quality?
No. PNG is lossless, so it keeps exactly what is in the JPG, but it can't bring back detail the JPG already lost. The file will usually be larger.
Will a JPG converted to PNG have a transparent background?
No. A JPG has no transparency, so the PNG keeps the same solid background. Removing a background needs an editing tool.
Why is the PNG so much bigger than my JPG?
PNG stores every pixel without lossy compression, which suits graphics but makes photos large. If size matters, WebP keeps quality with a far smaller file.
