Strong password generator
Create strong, random passwords with your browser's secure random generator. Choose the length and the characters to use, or switch to an easy-to-type passphrase of random words. The strength meter shows the real entropy, and nothing is ever sent or stored anywhere.
How to use the Password Generator
- 1Choose Password or Passphrase.
- 2Set the length (or number of words) and the kinds of characters to include.
- 3Check the strength: it's the real entropy of how the password was made.
- 4Copy the password straight into your password manager. Press Generate for a new one.
Frequently asked questions
Is this password generator safe to use?
Yes. Passwords are made on your device with crypto.getRandomValues, the browser's cryptographic random generator, and are never sent, logged or stored. You can even disconnect from the internet after the page loads.
How long should a password be?
At least 16 random characters for important accounts, or a passphrase of 5 to 6 random words. Length adds more strength than symbols do.
How is password strength calculated?
From the number of possible passwords the settings can produce (the entropy, in bits), which is exact for randomly generated passwords. The crack time assumes a fast offline attack of ten billion guesses a second.
Should I use the same strong password on several sites?
No. If one site leaks it, attackers try it everywhere. Use a different password for each account and keep them in a password manager.
