Frequently asked questions

Is PNG better than JPG for PDF pages?

For text, charts and diagrams, yes: PNG is lossless, so letters and thin lines keep hard edges. For pages that are mostly photos, JPG gives a far smaller file that looks the same.

Do PDF to PNG images have a transparent background?

No. PDF pages are drawn on white, as they look when printed, so the PNGs have a white background. That keeps dark text readable in every app.

Why are my PNG files so large?

Lossless images keep every pixel, so a full page at 150 DPI can be 1–3 MB. Use 72 DPI for screen previews, or JPG or WebP when the size matters more than perfect edges.
