Frequently asked questions
What makes a good URL slug?
Short, lowercase, words separated by hyphens and describing the page, such as /free-image-compressor. Avoid dates, IDs and filler words so the URL stays readable and doesn't go out of date.
Should I use hyphens or underscores in URLs?
Hyphens. Google treats hyphens as word separators, while underscores join words together. Underscores are fine for file names and code.
How are accents and special letters handled?
Accents are removed (é becomes e) and letters like ß, æ and ø become ss, ae and o. Symbols are dropped and "&" becomes "and", so every slug is plain ASCII.
