Frequently asked questions
How is words per minute calculated?
By the standard rule that a word is 5 characters. Net WPM is the characters typed divided by 5, minus uncorrected mistakes, per minute. Raw WPM ignores mistakes.
What is a good typing speed?
Around 40 WPM is typical for people who type every day, 60 WPM or more is fast, and professional typists often pass 80 WPM with over 95% accuracy.
Why is my accuracy lower than my mistakes suggest?
Accuracy counts every key you pressed, so a mistake you fixed with Backspace still counts once. That rewards typing carefully rather than correcting a lot.
Can I take the typing test on a phone?
Yes, it works with an on-screen keyboard, but autocorrect and swipe typing can change words. A physical keyboard gives the most accurate result.
