Compress an image to 1MB
Phone photos are often 3–8 MB, too big for many upload forms and chat apps. Set a 1 MB target and keep almost all of the detail, because 1 MB is plenty for a full-resolution JPG at high quality.
How to use the Image Compressor
- 1Drop one or more images (JPG, PNG, WebP or AVIF) onto the box, or tap it to choose files.
- 2Choose Quality to set the level yourself, or Target size to enter the file size you need, such as 100 KB.
- 3Pick the output format and, if you like, a maximum width. WebP usually gives the smallest file.
- 4Download each image, or all of them as one ZIP file. Everything happens on your device.
Frequently asked questions
Can I reduce a 5MB photo to 1MB without losing quality?
Usually yes, with no visible difference. Phone cameras save at very high quality, and lowering it slightly is enough to reach 1 MB at the same resolution.
Does this compress HEIC photos from an iPhone?
Only when your browser can open HEIC, such as Safari on a Mac or iPhone. Elsewhere, set your camera to Most Compatible (JPG) or export the photo as JPG first.
Is there a file size limit for the input?
There's no upload, so the limit is your device's memory. Very large images, above about 50 megapixels, may fail on older phones; the tool shows an error instead of a broken file.
