Compress an image to 20KB

Many government, exam and visa forms only accept photos and signatures under 20 KB. Drop your image here and the compressor lowers the quality, and the size if it has to, until the file fits under 20 KB.

How to use the Image Compressor

  1. 1Drop one or more images (JPG, PNG, WebP or AVIF) onto the box, or tap it to choose files.
  2. 2Choose Quality to set the level yourself, or Target size to enter the file size you need, such as 100 KB.
  3. 3Pick the output format and, if you like, a maximum width. WebP usually gives the smallest file.
  4. 4Download each image, or all of them as one ZIP file. Everything happens on your device.

Frequently asked questions

Can every photo be compressed to under 20KB?

Almost always, but a large photo has to be scaled down to fit. This page starts at a maximum width of 800 pixels and shrinks further only if 20 KB still can't be reached, then shows the final dimensions.

Which format should I use for a 20KB passport photo?

JPG, because most application portals only accept JPG or JPEG. This page uses JPG by default. Check the portal's rules for the exact pixel size as well as the file size.

Is it safe to compress ID photos and signatures here?

Yes. Compression runs entirely in your browser, so your photo, signature or document scan is never sent to a server.
