How to use the Image Compressor

  1. 1Drop one or more images (JPG, PNG, WebP or AVIF) onto the box, or tap it to choose files.
  2. 2Choose Quality to set the level yourself, or Target size to enter the file size you need, such as 100 KB.
  3. 3Pick the output format and, if you like, a maximum width. WebP usually gives the smallest file.
  4. 4Download each image, or all of them as one ZIP file. Everything happens on your device.

Frequently asked questions

What JPG quality should I use?

Quality 70–80 is the sweet spot for most photos: files are often 60–80% smaller and the difference is hard to see. Go higher for printing and lower for thumbnails.

Is JPG compression lossy?

Yes. JPG discards detail your eye is unlikely to notice, and each new save loses a little more. Keep your original and compress a copy for sharing.

What is the difference between JPG and JPEG?

None. They're the same format; JPEG is the full name and .jpg is the shorter file extension that older systems needed.
