Frequently asked questions

How are commas and quotes inside CSV cells handled?

As RFC 4180 describes: a cell with a comma, quote or line break is wrapped in double quotes, and a quote inside it is written twice (""). The parser reads them back the same way.

Why are some numbers kept as text?

Values with leading zeros (like 007 or phone numbers) and whole numbers too large for JavaScript to store exactly stay as text, so nothing is silently changed.

My CSV uses semicolons. Will it work?

Yes. Spreadsheets in many European languages use semicolons. The delimiter is detected automatically, and you can choose comma, semicolon, tab or pipe yourself.

What does Protect against spreadsheet formulas do?

Cells starting with =, +, - or @ can run as formulas when a CSV is opened in Excel or Sheets. This option adds an apostrophe in front so they open as plain text.
