JSON formatter and validator
Paste JSON to format it with clean indentation, check that it's valid, and see the exact line and column of any error. Minify it, sort its keys or explore it as a collapsible tree, all in your browser.
How to use the JSON Formatter & Validator
- 1Paste your JSON into the box, or drop a .json file onto it.
- 2Tap Format to beautify it, or Minify to remove all spaces. Errors show the line and column.
- 3Turn on Sort keys if you want the keys in alphabetical order, and open the Tree tab to explore large files.
- 4Copy the result or download it as a .json file.
Frequently asked questions
Why is my JSON invalid?
The usual causes are a trailing comma after the last item, single quotes instead of double quotes, keys without quotes, comments, or a missing bracket. The validator points to the exact line and column where parsing stopped.
Is my JSON sent to a server?
No. Formatting and validation run in your browser, so API responses, tokens and configuration files stay on your device.
How large a JSON file can I format?
Files of several megabytes format in a moment on most devices. The tree view shows the first 500 items of each array or object to stay responsive.
