Convert GIF to PNG
Convert a GIF to a PNG image, keeping its transparency. For animated GIFs, the first frame is saved as a still PNG, which is handy for thumbnails, previews and documents. It all happens in your browser.
How to use the Image Converter
- 1Drop the images you want to convert, or tap the box to choose them.
- 2Pick the output format. AVIF only appears when your browser can create it.
- 3Adjust the quality for JPG, WebP or AVIF if you need a smaller file.
- 4Download each converted image, or all of them as a ZIP file.
Frequently asked questions
What happens to an animated GIF when converted to PNG?
Only the first frame is kept, as a still PNG, because the browser's canvas reads one frame. To keep the animation, leave it as a GIF or turn it into a short video.
Will a GIF look better as a PNG?
It will look the same: PNG keeps the GIF's pixels exactly. PNG can hold millions of colours, but it can't recover colours the GIF's 256-colour palette already lost.
Can I convert several GIFs to PNG at once?
Yes, up to 20 at a time. Download each PNG or all of them together as a ZIP file.
