Convert JPG to AVIF

Shrink JPG photos for faster websites by converting them to AVIF, often about half the size at similar quality. AVIF saving needs a browser that can encode it, such as Chrome or Edge; where it can't, the page tells you and offers WebP instead.

Frequently asked questions

Which browsers can convert images to AVIF?

Chrome and Edge on desktop and Android can save AVIF. Safari and Firefox can show AVIF images but can't create them in the browser yet, so on those the tool suggests WebP.

What AVIF quality should I use?

Around 50–65 for photos: AVIF looks good at lower settings than JPG. This page starts at 60. Check the result and the size, then adjust.

Can I use AVIF images on my website?

Yes: all current major browsers display AVIF. For very old browsers, serve a JPG fallback with the <picture> element.
