MX record lookup

Check which mail servers receive email for a domain. The MX lookup lists each server with its priority and TTL, live from Cloudflare's public DNS, so you can confirm a new email provider is set up correctly.

How to use the DNS Lookup

  1. 1Enter a domain such as example.com, or a host name like www.example.com or _dmarc.example.com.
  2. 2Read each record type with its values and TTL, the time resolvers may cache it.
  3. 3Switch to Propagation to see whether Cloudflare and Google already return the same values after a change.
  4. 4Copy the records as zone-file lines, or share the result link.

Frequently asked questions

What does the MX priority number mean?

Lower numbers are tried first. Servers with the same number share the load, and higher numbers are backups used when the main servers don't answer.

How do I check that my MX records are right?

Compare the servers listed here with the ones your email provider gives you, such as Google Workspace or Microsoft 365. Remove old providers' MX records so mail doesn't go to the wrong place.

What does an MX record of 0 and a dot mean?

That's a null MX: the domain says it never receives email. It's correct for domains used only for a website, and it stops spammers using them as a reply address.
