Frequently asked questions
What are UTM parameters?
Tags added to the end of a link (utm_source, utm_medium, utm_campaign, utm_content, utm_term) that analytics tools read to tell you where a visit came from.
Which UTM medium should I use for social media?
Use social for organic posts and paid_social for ads, with the network as the source. GA4 then puts the visits in its Organic Social and Paid Social channels instead of Unassigned.
Should UTM tags be lower-case?
Yes. Analytics treats Facebook and facebook as two different sources, which splits your reports. This builder lower-cases values by default and swaps spaces for dashes.
Can I use UTM links on my own website?
Don't tag internal links between your own pages: it starts a new session and overwrites the real source of the visit. Use UTM tags only on links you share elsewhere.
