Add page numbers to a PDF

Put page numbers on every page of a PDF: choose the corner or centre, top or bottom, a format such as "3", "Page 3" or "3 of 12", the font size and where to start counting. You can leave the cover page unnumbered. It all runs in your browser.

Frequently asked questions

Can I start page numbering from a number other than 1?

Yes. Set Start at to any number, such as 5 if the PDF continues another document. Combined with "Don't number the first page", the cover is skipped and the next page shows your starting number.

Will the page numbers cover my content?

They're placed in the margin you set (28 points, about 1 cm, by default). If your pages already have a footer there, move the numbers to the top or increase the margin.

Do page numbers work on landscape or rotated pages?

Yes. The tool works out how each page is shown and draws the number upright in the corner you picked, even on pages that are stored rotated.
