Compress PNG images

PNG is lossless, so a browser can't simply lower its quality. This page keeps your files as PNG, with transparency, and makes them smaller by limiting the width to 1,920 pixels; switch the output to WebP for much bigger savings.

How to use the Image Compressor

  1. 1Drop one or more images (JPG, PNG, WebP or AVIF) onto the box, or tap it to choose files.
  2. 2Choose Quality to set the level yourself, or Target size to enter the file size you need, such as 100 KB.
  3. 3Pick the output format and, if you like, a maximum width. WebP usually gives the smallest file.
  4. 4Download each image, or all of them as one ZIP file. Everything happens on your device.

Frequently asked questions

Why didn't my PNG get smaller?

If the PNG was already optimised and isn't wider than the limit, saving it again can't shrink it, so the tool keeps your original. Choose a smaller maximum width, or WebP output, to reduce it.

Does compressing a PNG keep the transparent background?

Yes. PNG output keeps transparency, and so does WebP. Only JPG fills transparent areas with white.

What's the best way to make a PNG photo smaller?

Photos don't suit PNG. Converting them to WebP or JPG usually cuts the file by 70% or more with no visible loss. Keep PNG for logos, icons and screenshots with text.
