How to use the Speech to Text
- 1Open this page in Chrome or Edge on a computer or Android phone.
- 2Choose the language you'll speak in.
- 3Press Start and allow the microphone when asked. Speak naturally; grey text is still being recognised.
- 4Press Stop, tidy the transcript if needed, then copy it or download it as a text file.
Frequently asked questions
Does Urdu voice typing write in Urdu script or Roman Urdu?
Urdu script. The speech service returns Urdu in its own alphabet. For Roman Urdu, choose English and speak slowly, though spellings will vary.
How accurate is Urdu speech recognition?
Good for clear, everyday speech in a quiet room, weaker with heavy background noise, very fast speech or mixed Urdu and English. Read the text through and fix names and numbers.
Can I type Urdu by voice on my phone?
Yes, in Chrome on Android. Open this page, choose Urdu (Pakistan), allow the microphone and speak. On iPhone, Safari's support is limited, so the keyboard's own dictation may work better.
