Frequently asked questions

Is this invoice generator really free with no watermark?

Yes. There's no sign-up, no limit on invoices and nothing added to your PDF. It runs in your browser, so it doesn't cost us anything to run either.

Where are my invoice details stored?

Only in this browser's local storage on your device, so the form is filled in next time you visit. Nothing is sent to Join Postly. Use Clear saved data on a shared computer.

Should the discount go before or after VAT?

Usually before: a discount you give at the time of sale lowers the price VAT is charged on. Choose after tax only when the money off doesn't change the taxable price; ask your accountant if you're unsure.

How is VAT rounded on the invoice?

Each line is rounded to the penny (or the currency's smallest unit), then tax is worked out once per rate on the total of those lines and rounded half up. That is the invoice-level method most accounting tools use.

Is a PDF invoice from this tool legally valid?

An invoice is valid when it has the details your tax authority asks for, such as your business name and address, a unique number, dates and, if registered, your VAT number. This tool is a document generator, not accounting or tax advice, so check the rules where you trade.

Why do some letters show as question marks in my PDF?

The PDF uses the built-in Helvetica font, which covers English and Western European letters, £, € and $. Other scripts such as Arabic, Urdu or Chinese aren't in it, so the page warns you and lists the characters before you download.
